Training the Powers of Precise Observation (Foundations for Science, Geometry, History, Logic, and Creative Endeavors)

Children love to touch everything in sight—it’s how they learn about their world. At Guidepost Montessori, we do more than offer ample opportunity for children to explore. We provide a purposeful sequence of sensorial materials, engaging lessons, and freedom for every child to focus and practice with them at their own pace.

These materials empower children to become careful observers, logical thinkers, and precise communicators—building the foundational cognitive habits needed to achieve excellence in art, science, history, logic, and so much more.

features of guidepost montessori's sensorial curriculum:

Attention to detail

Over time, children use sensorial materials to fine tune their ability to perceive small differences—whether between two shades of red, notes on a scale, or cubes with 1 cm of difference in each of their dimensions.

A vibrant, varied vocabulary

From parts of a flower, countries of the world, types of land formations, to isosceles and equilateral triangles, children build a rich vocabulary using engaging hands-on materials.

Logic & problem-Solving

With the opportunity to solve puzzles they find naturally captivating, children explore cause and effect with increasing complexity.

Nido

In Nido, infants refine their vision, hand-eye coordination, and understanding of cause and effect using sensorial materials such as:

  • Captivating visual mobiles that inspire focus & visual tracking
  • Grasping objects made of various natural materials
  • Basic puzzles that require precise hand movements & coordination

Toddler

In our toddler program, children become increasingly sophisticated in their ability to observe and problem-solve by:

  • Pairing and sorting objects by type
  • Identifying objects by touch alone
  • Identifying and rotating objects to fit into various shaped slots

Children’s House

In Children’s House, children make big leaps to improve their logical thinking, working memory, and vocabulary by:

  • Combining puzzles from the same series and solving them all at once
  • Describing materials and their experiences with precise language
  • Increasing the challenge of logic puzzles by playing ‘memory games’ which require them to hold information in mind across time

at guidepost montessori, we believe every child is tremendously capable.

But what’s even better, the children believe it too.

Every child at Guidepost Montessori knows they can accomplish real things and engage in real learning. Not because someone tells them so, but because they choose it, experience it, and succeed at it every single day.
